Not the traffic accidents, not the motorway congestion, not the 6 hr drive – nothing was gonna stop Si and Ste’s Brum to Wolfscastle road trip. No sireee! And what a thrill it was to finally raise a beer together at Gaz’s in West Wales to mark this special 36 hour reunion.

FRIDAY

The Challenge

Like Jack Bauer the guys had no time to waste and were immediately back on the road again to the nearby Wolf’s Inn. The mood was up, the spirits high, and despite Gaz’s hesitation, the beers were soon flowing too, and boy the food was damn good. And then came the baby Guinness shots, and another and another…

The Reward

Re-fuelled and replenished they got back around midnight, with just enough time for their first game of kick off with the aptly named Last Man Standing theme. A game setting where literally every foul resulted in injury. Of course this depended on the referee keeping them peeled to spot the foul. Indi, however, was less than hawkeye. The same could not be said for lidless Zappa. Gaz v Ste proved a total bloodbath, first with Gaz taking down half of Ste’s team to forge ahead before Ste struck back so much so the match was nearly halted due a player shortage haha, only for Gaz to stagger, battered but not beaten over the victory line.

SATURDAY

The next day started s-l-o-w-l-y and what better way to clear the head than a walk along the north Pembrokeshire coastline. But hang on, where’s Si’s wallet? Not the pub, nor in the car, kitchen or dining room. Blank after agonising blank, Gaz then finally “solved” the mystery. We best skip the part where he god damn caused the chaos in the first place when he mistook Si’s wallet for his own in the early hours of the the night before. F**KKK!!! All’s well that end’s well, I guess, even though I’m no sure the same is true of Si’s blood pressure.

The Coastline

After a much needed mixed grill we resumed the retro. All was well again in Si’s world, he made light of the scoring challenge (in stark contrast to Gaz who’s shooting boots must still be in Brum?) before going on to triumph in a two-round league. Way to go!

An energy boost was still needed so how about a walk in Sealyham Woods. That’ll put a spring back in their steps, right? Knackering more like haha but the outdoors called one last time, as they headed via much talked about Haverfordwest Railway Station to Broadhaven while listening to some top tunes on “le stashi-onn”” en route hehe And brisk was the understatement, as their cobwebs were well and truly blown away along the sunny-but windy sea front. From choppy to chippy it was agreed for a final pitstop at Letterston’s Something’s Cookin’

The Woods

As the day light faded, back at Gaz’s the final rounds of kick off began, albeit with their match fitness lagging. Meanwhile outside the full moon was rising, and unexpectedly, almost against the wills, the guys were drawn outside. What kind of witching hour was this? And like the Death Star tractor beam, the moonlight lured the trio out into the night and towards the former mansion nearby. Half expecting to see a ghost, as they peered into empty house of heebee-jeebees, Ste then summons any malevolence to show itself! And for the first time that day they finally had a spring in their step lol

The Buck Moon

SUNDAY

With a noon deadline back in the West Midlands, Si and Ste were up quick smart the following day. So fast that Ste didn’t have time to pack his rucksack lol but he had everything else. Well almost, his pesky phone had stowed away too, thankfully not at Gaz’s but in Si’s car. The driver soon remedied the situation together with finding the high speed route home. So although the weekend was over far too quick we were still so glad it happened!
